Folk music singer
Born: 26 October 26, 1901 - Died: 30 December 1959
Prominent vocalist Abbas Uddin Ahmed was born on 26 October 1901 in the village of Balrampur in the Tufanganj subdivision of the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. His father Zafar Ali Ahmed was a lawyer in Tufanganj subdivisional court. Abbasuddin's educational career began at Balrampur School. He entered from Tufanganj School in 1919 and passed IA from Cooch Behar College in 1921. From here he passed the BA exam and entered the world of music.
Abbas Uddin is known all over the country as a vocalist. He has sung modern songs, Swadeshi songs, Islamic songs, folk songs, Urdu songs. However, his originality and success is most in folk songs. He did not have the training of any master in the world of music. Put yourself in front of everyone with your talent. He was first a singer in Palligai. Listening to songs at Jatra Theater and school-college cultural events, he became attracted to music and learned to sing on his own. For some time after that he learned classical music from Ustad Jamiruddin Khan. Abbas Uddin first gained fame by singing Bhavaya, Kshirol Chatka in Rangpur and Cooch Behar region. Then he became popular by singing songs like Jari, Sari, Bhatiali, Murshidi, Bichhedi, Dehatattva, Murcia, Pala Gaan etc. The way in which he embodied the melody of country songs in his tender melodious voice is still unique today. He has also sung songs composed by Kazi Nazrul Islam, Jasimuddin, Golam Mostafa and others. Abbas Uddin was the first Muslim singer to record songs from HMV using his real name. The records were very successful commercially. So other Hindu singers started singing under Muslim pseudonyms. Abbas Uddin lived in Calcutta from 1931 to 1947. He first worked as a clerk in the DPI office in the Writers' Building and later as a permanent clerk in the Agriculture Department. He entered the government service as a recording expert during the tenure of AK Fazlul Haque. In the 1940s, Abbas Uddin's songs played an important role in garnering the support of the Muslim masses for the Pakistan movement. After partition (1948) he came to Dhaka and worked as an additional song organizer in the government propaganda department. .
About Abbas Uddin, Farhad Mazhar said: Abbas Uddin was not only a singer, if the singers of this generation think that Abbas Uddin has won the hearts of the people of this country just by singing, then it would be a big mistake. Abbas contained the aspirations and struggles of his time Many. His sons Ferdousi Rahman and Mustafa Zaman Abbasi also gained fame by singing.
Starring in movies
Abbasuddin Ahmed acted in a total of 4 Bengali films. These 4 films are 'Vishnumaya' (1932), 'Mahanisha' (1938), 'Ekti Kotha' and 'Thikadar' (1940). In Thikadar, Abbas Uddin played the role of a porter. He is thought to have acted in a number of films, but did not mention it. Because those characters were not so significant. He also sang in these movies. [5] In those days, it was an exceptional event for a Muslim person to make a movie. From.
